Do not be late
This may seem obvious but you will be surprised how many folks break this rule. When you are consistently late it shows that you are irresponsible and in some cases that you do not want to be there. If this means you need to leave home earlier than that is what you will have to do.
Remember that you were chosen out of all other applicants. Have confidence in the fact that you probably beat out a ton of applicants. Lack of confidence in yourself will show not only in your demeanor but also in your performance. However, there is a fine line between confidence and cocky.
If you are unsure of something ask questions. Do not be afraid to ask for help. Being that you are new people will more than likely expect you to have questions.
While it is ok to ask questions. It is still very important for you to do your own research. Do not know the company policies than pull out its handbook. Additionally, by doing your own research you will be able to intelligently ask questions and give valuable feedback and suggestions.
Sometimes being new can keep you from speaking up. But remember you were hired for a reason. Chances are the company was looking for fresh ideas, thoughts, and opinions and will expect you to share yours.
Think Before You Speak
At the same time, always think before you speak. While your colleagues and boss want to hear your opinions. Voicing your opinion during meetings may not always be substantial to the overall discussion. Make sure what you have to say will enlist valuable information
You can learn so much just by listening. Most of the time a majority of questions can be answered by listening.
Stay out of drama
When you are spending 40 hours a week with the same individuals, personalities will eventually clash. However, do not go out looking for drama. If a coworker likes to gossip or start drama remove yourself from the situation. You can state something like “I have XYZ to get back too.”
Always meet deadlines
Never be the person who cannot turn their assignments or project in on time. This is not college, missed deadlines can lead to serious consequences.
When your pass someone always speak. You do not have to go into a long conversation with the person, but a simple Hi, Good Morning, Good Afternoon, can go a long way.
